MINUTES OF THE MAY 13, 2025 REGULAR MEETING OF
THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE
VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK
APPROVED AS WRITTEN ON

1. CALL TO ORDER
The Regular Meeting of the Village Board of Trustees was called to order by President Laurence E. Herman in the
Samuel E. Dean Boardroom of the Butler Government Center at 7:00 p.m. Invited the Oak Brook Honor Guard to
post the Colors and lead everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

President Herman thanked the Honor Guard representing the exceptional men and women of the Village's
Police and Fire Departments and introduced the Hindu Priestess Anu Malhotra.
Hindu Priestess Malhotra thanked everyone for the opportunity to officiate the spiritual ceremony and
offered her heartfelt congratulations to the Trustee Candidates. She offered them her blessings and began
the ceremonial ritual.
2. ROLL CALL
President Herman thanked the Hindu Priestess Malhotra for the inspirational blessings and asked Clerk Scarpiniti to
call the roll.

Rebecca Von Drasek, Sports Core Director Art Segura, and Village Attorney Michael Castaldo Jr.
3. PRESIDENT’S OPENING COMMENTS
President Herman congratulated all newly elected officials. He expressed his thoughts regarding the election.
4. PUBLIC COMMENTS
Resident Anne Huber thanked the Hindu Priestess Malhotra for the lovely and inspiring ceremony and suggested
the consideration of turning the clubhouse into a Ayurvedic Healing Center. She requested an audit of Chic Chef
since they began leasing in 2023 and requested an electronic version of Mr. Summers's slide presentation from the
last Sports Core Committee meeting. Resident Huber inquired whether Chic Chef would pursue the lease
addendum discussed at the Regular Board of Trustees Meeting in April. She stated that a petition in opposition to
the addendum is being circulated.
Resident Alyse Gaddis expressed her thoughts and opinions regarding the proposed opportunity to have repairs to
the clubhouse completed at no cost to the Village, resident vs. non-resident utilization of the facilities and the

proposition of shutting it down.
Resident Kathy Paskalides discussed the misleading information regarding Bath & Tennis Club operations, listed
historical facts surrounding the financial situation and shared her opinions regarding the proposed opportunity with
Chic Chef to complete repairs.
Former President Gopal Lalmalani congratulated the three newly elected officials, and praised their
accomplishments during their previous term. He congratulated President Herman for his decision-making and
leadership in navigating the challenges surrounding the Bath & Tennis Club. President Lalmalani also
congratulated President Herman on bringing Hindu Priestess Malhotra to spread the message of tranquility and
peace.
5. ANNOUNCEMENT OF OFFICIAL ELECTION RESULTS
President Herman thanked Trustee Reddy for the recommendation of Hindu Priestess Malhotra and asked Clerk
Scarpiniti to announce the official election results.
Clerk Scarpiniti read the following results: Trustee Melissa Martin - 1505 votes, Trustee A. Suresh Reddy - 1478
votes, Trustee James Nagle - 1,445 votes, and former Trustee Asif Yusuf - 1,099 votes.
6. ADJOURNMENT SINE DIE
MOTION: To Adjourn the Regular Board of Trustees Meeting of May 13, 2025 Sine Die at 7:24 p.m.
Motioned: Trustee Martin
Seconded: Trustee Manzo
VOICE VOTE: Passed
7. SWEARING IN
President Herman introduced Honorable Judge Neal Cerne, spoke about his personal history with the Judge and
invited Judge Neal Cerne to administer the Oath of Office to the newly elected Trustees.

Honorable Judge Cerne administered the Oath of Office to Trustee Melissa Martin and congratulated her.
B. Oath of Office for Village Trustee James Nagle
Honorable Judge Cerne administered the Oath of Office to Trustee James Nagle and congratulated him.
C. Oath of Office for Village Trustee A. Suresh Reddy
Honorable Judge Cerne administered the Oath of Office to Trustee A. Suresh Reddy and congratulated him.
8. RECONVENE MEETING
President Herman thanked Honorable Judge Cerne for his presence and service during this meeting. He reconvened
the Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees to order in the Samuel E. Dean Boardroom of the Butler Government
Center at 7:32 p.m. and asked Clerk Scarpiniti to call the roll of the new Board.

10.BOARD UPDATES
President Herman invited the Trustees to individually address the public.
Trustee Jain congratulated the re-elected Trustees on their victory and stated that he is looking forward to working
together once again for a few more years.
Trustee Nagle thanked everyone for voting and expressed his appreciation to individual family members for their
support and presence.
Trustee Reddy thanked President Herman for organizing the event, Hindu Priestess Malhorta for having the honor
of performing the blessing and thanked everyone for their votes and trust in him. He spoke about transparency,
mutual respect, and shared values. He thanked his friends and family for their support.
Trustee Martin shared details about how she collected McDonald’s Happy Meals during her childhood and that she
is grateful and happy to serve in the Village that was the headquarters of McDonald's Corporation. She expressed
her gratitude to all the voters for electing her and congratulated the other Trustees on their win.
Trustee Manzo thanked everyone for coming out to vote, congratulated the Trustees on their victory and stated that
there is a lot more work that needs to be done.
Trustee Tiesenga also congratulated the successful candidates and spoke about the core value of what it means to be
in “the western intellectual tradition” as it relates to this election. He stated that it is an honor to serve on the current
Board and thanked the voters for re-electing the Trustees.
11.ADJOURNMENT
President Herman congratulated the re-elected Trustees and invited everyone to stay for celebratory refreshments in
the West Wing Conference Room of the Butler Government Center.
