MINUTES OF THE APRIL 21, 2026 REGULAR MEETING OF THE LIBRARY COMMISSION
OF THE VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK APPROVED AS WRITTEN ON JULY 21, 2026.
1. CALL TO ORDER: CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Library Commission was called to order by Chairperson Petz in the
Library Meeting Room at 7:00 pm.
2. ROLL CALL:
Chairperson Petz called the roll with the following persons
PRESENT: Commissioners, Christy Dolan, Paul Jones, Roberta Petz, Steven Stawarz
ABSENT: Commissioners Anthony DiCanio, Mark Moy, Susan Epstein
IN ATTENDANCE: Head Librarian Jacob Post, Administrative Coordinator Michelle Coduto,
Trustee Liaison Edward Tiesenga, Trustee Liaison Melissa Martin

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Motion by Commissioner Jones and seconded by Commissioner Dolan to approve the minutes of
the regular Library Commission Meeting of January 20, 2026 as written. All in favor; none
opposed.

NEW BUSINESS
A. 250TH CELEBRATION:
Head Librarian Post updated the Commissioners on the plans so far for the 250th Celebration,
including the distribution of The Greatest Sentence Ever Written by Walter Isaacson and the
creation of a bookmark honoring the event. The Commissioners discussed options for book talk
programs and suggested hosting talks for different age groups presented by local historians or legal
experts. An oversize printing of the Declaration of Independence for display was also discussed.

A. CHAIRPERSON:
Chairperson Petz informed the Commission that today is National Library Workers Day, part of
National Library Week, and thanked the library staff for their work. Petz shared the history of
National Library Week as well as new statistics on readership from a PEW Research Center study.
B. HEAD LIBRARIAN:
Head Librarian Post shared the first quarter statistics, pointing out the trend of more families
using the Library. Post also said that staff are gearing up for summer reading and will be rolling
out a new app/software that patrons can use to track their reading.

C. COMMISSIONERS:
Commissioner Dolan stated that she enjoys sharing the Library statistics with the community.

Chairperson Petz adjourned the meeting at 7:57 pm.
