MINUTES OF THE JULY 21, 2026 REGULAR MEETING OF THE LIBRARY COMMISSION
OF THE VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK APPROVED AS WRITTEN ON OCTOBER 20, 2026.
1. CALL TO ORDER: CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Library Commission was called to order by Chairperson Petz in the
Library Meeting Room at 7:03 pm.
2. ROLL CALL:
Chairperson Petz called the roll with the following persons
PRESENT: Commissioners Christy Dolan, Susan Epstein, Roberta Petz, Steven Stawarz
ABSENT: Commissioners Anthony DiCanio, Paul Jones, Mark Moy
IN ATTENDANCE: Head Librarian Jacob Post, Reference Librarian Erin Zarnick

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Motion by Commissioner Dolan and seconded by Commissioner Stawarz to approve the minutes
of the regular Library Commission Meeting of April 21, 2026 as written. All in favor; none
opposed.

NEW BUSINESS
A. INTERGENERATIONAL BOOK CLUB:
Head Librarian Post presented the idea of the Library organizing a book club that spans multiple
generations as a way to foster conversation across age groups. The Commission liked the idea.
Logistics such as time, day, frequency, and book selection were discussed. Reference Librarian
Zarnick agreed to research the idea and report back.

INFORMATION & UPDATES INFO & UPDATES
A. CHAIRPERSON:
Chairperson Petz shared with the group Illinois House Bill 5236 which concerns the regulation of
e-book licensing from publishers to public libraries. Right now, publishers can charge libraries a
different rate than regular consumers and this Bill opposes that practice. The Bill passed the House
and is currently in the Senate.
B. HEAD LIBRARIAN:
Head Librarian Post shared second quarter statistics, recapped a successful America 250 program,
and let the Commission know the Library was once again awarded its per capita grant from the
State.

8. C. COMMISSIONERS:
Commissioner Stawarz mentioned that the Rockford Public Library had a building renovation
that includes a video studio with a green screen. Discussion on all the neat things libraries have
and do ensued. Commissioner Dolan thought it useful for the Library to create a wish list of
renovation ideas. She would also like the Library to organize a Mahjong program.
