MINUTES OF THE APRIL 10, 2014 MEETING OF THE OAK BROOK
HOTEL, CONVENTION AND VISITORS COMMITTEE OF THE
VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK APPROVED AS WRITTEN AUGUST 21,
2014.
CALL TO ORDER:
The Regular Meeting of the Oak Brook Hotel, Convention & Visitors Committee of the Village
of Oak Brook was held in the Upper Level Conference Room of the Butler Government Center
and called to order by Chairman Norm Canfield at 10:05 a.m.
Chairman Norm Canfield requested to have everyone introduce themselves.
PRESENT: Norm Canfield, Mort Kouklan, Martin Schooley, Dr. Abbasy and Chris Johnson.
ABSENT: Chuck Fleming and Jeremiah Drummond.
IN ATTENDANCE: Trustees Don Adler and Mark Moy, David Niemeyer, Village Manager,
Tracy Mulqueen and Natalie Rodriguez, Chamber of Commerce and Skip
Strittmatter, DuPage Convention and Visitors Bureau.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A. March 6, 2014 Special Meeting - A motion was made by Dr. Abbasy, seconded by Mort
Kouklan, to approve the March 6, 2014 Special Hotel Committee meeting minutes. Voice vote.
Motion approved.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
A. Ratification of Release of Funds to the DuPage Convention and Visitors Bureau - 2013
Fourth Quarter Hotel Tax Receipts - $17,726.23. - A motion was made by Martin Schooley,
seconded by Dr. Abbasy, to approve the release of funds to the DuPage Convention and Visitors
Bureau for the fourth quarter Hotel Tax receipts in the amount of $17,726.23. Voice Vote.
Motion approved.
B. 2014 Marketing Plan Update – Chairman Canfield explained that Point B was unable to
attend and we will need to have someone be the point person between Point B & Bridgepoint
Technologies.
Chris Johnson Arrived.
C. Polo Marketing/Sponsorships – Discussion was held regarding the Hotels of Oak Brook Polo
sponsorship. Skip Strittmatter explained that she spoke with Suzanne Beres at the Oak Brook
Center about getting banners throughout the mall or in empty store fronts. Skip is also compiling
a list of Polo Clubs from USPA. Additional ideas were discussed.
D. Commercial Revitalization Committee Meeting Update – Manager Niemeyer shared some of
the highlights from the recent Commercial Revitalization Committee meeting which included
York and Harger Roads, possible full signalization of the intersection. Funding will be discussed
with the Village Board; grant money will take approximately 5 – 7 years.
NEW BUSINESS
A. Hotel Tax Ordinance Discussion – Manager Niemeyer explained the history of the Hotel Tax
fund. The 1% portion has always been used towards marketing and the 2% portion was to fund
the Streetscape/Beautification Plan. He continued to explain that there have been discussions at

the Village Board level regarding clarifying the Hotel Tax policy. As in the past, Manager
Niemeyer has told the Committee that anything that comes up relative to the Hotel Tax, would be
brought to the Committee for discussion. Trustee Don Adler explained that he is requesting
clarification of the State code and the Village policy.
DU PAGE CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU UPDATE
Skip Strittmatter explained the upcoming DCVB events. The FAM Tour held last month went
very well. They are hoping to have POW WOW back again. DCVB also met with one of the
largest Harley Davidson dealers on their RT 66 tour. They are trying to get them to move their
sub-base here.
Chairman Canfield mentioned that Skip is retiring and thank her for her many years of service.
GREATER OAK BROOK CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
No report at this time.
OTHER BUSINESS
Chairman Canfield also mentioned that Manager Niemeyer is also leaving and thanked him for
his support and guidance during his tenure here that the Village.

Motion by Chris Johnson, seconded by Mort Kouklan to adjourn the meeting of the Hotel
Convention and Visitors Committee at 11:58 am.
