AGENDA ITEM
Regular Board of Trustees Meeting
of
September 23,2014
SUBJECT: Surplus Property
FROM: Rania Serences, Senior Purchasing Assistant
BUDGET SOURCE/BUDGET IMPACT: N/A
RECOMMENDED MOTION: I move that the Village Board adopt the attached ordinance
authorizing the sale of surplus items.
Background/History:
The attached ordinance authorizes the sale of vehicles that have reached the end of their useful life and
have been replaced with newer models or are no longer needed. Unit 201 was the former Village
Manager vehicle. Units 303, 304, and 305 were Police Department pursuit vehicles. Unit 317 was a
Police Department CSO vehicle. Unit 512 was used by the Public Works Street Division for maintenance
and snow plowing.
To obtain the greatest resale amount for the surplus vehicles, staff will first register them with an
online auction site run by the State of Illinois, called iBid. If inadequate or no bids are received
through the online auction, staff will advertise for bids in the local newspaper. If no bids are
received through the newspaper advertisement, the items will be offered to local schools,
churches and not-for-profit agencies. Any remaining surplus vehicles will be disposed of
properly.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends that the Village Board adopt the attached ordinance authorizing the sale of surplus
items.
