Villaq Pr vi ent ATTEST: Cler. n COMWITY SERVICE OFFICER NATME OF JURK A Community Service Officer is a uniformed, unarmed, civilian member of the Police Department engaged in local ordinance enforcement and administrative duties within the Police Department. The objective of this position is to relieve sworn personnel so they can perform duties that require a higher level of training and expertise. The duties of the Community Service Officers involves issuing parking tickets, enforcing Village Ordinance violations, taking accident reports, patrolling assigned areas of responsibility by vehicle and on foot, and to provide other types of general civilian support as required. EXAMPLES OF WRK PERFORWO Patrol designated areas of the Village in a radio-cruiser car or on foot. Enforce parking regulations and Village Ordinance violations. Fingerprint job applicants. Deliver evidence to court, run errands for the administrative staff. Assist and relieve communication officers. Respond to citizen complaints concerning stray animals. Perform other related work as required. DESIRABLE KNOW E ABILITIES AND SKILLS Considerable knowledge of the geography of the community and the location of important buildings. Considbrable knowledge of local ordinances. Ability to doal tactfully and courtasously with the public and oth9r employees. The Village's 1988/1989 Budget included the hiring Of twO full-time Communitly service officers to be classified in Grade 4 ($18,146 - $25,599). These individuals would be civilian employees as cOmPaW to fully "" Police officers. Their duties would be Pred0minantlY se ice related, which would reduce the service tasks currently handled by police officers and would therefore all more tine for them to spend on patrol, traffic, and other police enforcement functions. The following duties would be performed hj the CSO's rather than police officers: a. Traffic control at accident scene and special events. b. Animal control. c.
