AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING SMOKING
IN PUBLIC ELEVATORS AND CERTAIN
RETAIL STORES WITHIN THE VILLAGE
OF OAKBROOK. DU PAGE COUNTY ILLINOIS
WHEREAS, it is recognized by the President and Board of
Trustees of the Village of Oakbrook that public elevators in large
retail stores , where merchandise is displayed and offered for sale ,
attracts crowds within relatively small areas and that smoking in
such places is a menace to public health, safety and property,
and as such constitutes a nuisance; and
WHEREAS, in the opinion of the President and Board of
Trustees it is necessary for the public health, safety and wel-
fare to prohibit smoking n such laces
g p in order .to abate said
nuisance ;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the President and
Board of -Trustees of the Village of Oakbrook, DuPage County,
Illinois :
Section 1. That it is unlawful for any person to smoke
or carry a lighted cigarette, cigar or pipe in any public elevator
or in any retail store in which more than one hundred persons are
employed, excluding areas set apart for serving food or beverages,
waiting and rest rooms, executive offices , beauty parlors and
other rooms or areas where merchandise is not exposed for public
sale.
Section 2. That any person violating the provisions
Of this ordinance shall , upon conviction. of such violation, be
fined not less than One Dollar nor more than Two Hundred Dollars
for each such offense.
Section 3. That all ordinances or parts or ordinances
in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance be and the same

Section 4. That this ordinance shall be in full force
and effect from and after its passage, approval and publication
as provided in such cases by statute.
Passed and approved by the President and the Board of
Trustees of the Village of Oakbrook thisday of
