R-972 - 03/13/2007 - MUNICIPAL - ResolutionsRESOLUTION 2007- GL- MUN -FOI -R -972 A RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO LEGISLATION RELATIVE TO FREEDOM OF INFORMATION DISCLOSURES OF SETTLEMENT AGREEMENTS ENTERED INTO BY A PUBLIC BODY WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the State of Illinois has recently introduced legislation which would require disclosure through the Freedom of Information Act of settlement agreements entered into by a public body, and WHEREAS, the passage of this legislation, entitled House Bill 511, would allow the release of litigation settlement amounts and severely compromise the ability of the Village of Oak Brook to negotiate settlements of future litigation, and WHEREAS, the Village President and Board of Trustees find that the interests of the Village of Oak Brook would not be best served by passage of House Bill 511. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Oak Brook, DuPage and Cook Counties, Illinois, as follows Section 1 - That the Village President and Board of Trustees for the Village of Oak Brook hereby express their collective opposition to the passage of House Bill 511, proposed by the General Assembly of the State of Illinois, allowing for the disclosure of settlement agreements entered into by a public body through the Freedom of Information Act Section 2 All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with this resolution are hereby repealed to the extent of the conflict.
