RES OLUT I ON- /6, -/X -101; WHEREAS, the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of OAkk Brook are charged with the responsibility of providing for the public health, safety and welfare of the residents of Oak Brook, and, WHEREAS, said charge includes the responsibility of providing a safe and efficient system of streets and highways for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic, and, WHEREAS, York Road, although it extends through the Village of Oak Brook, is under the direct jurisdiction and control of the DuPage County Highway Department, and, WHEREAS, on May 12th, 1971, an eleven - pear -old Oak Brook resident was struck and fatally injured as he attempted to cross York Road at its intersection with Windsor Drive, and, WHEREAS, the intersection of York Road and Windsor Drive is a focal crossing point for many Oak Brook residents, Yount and old alike, who participate in recreational activities available in the International Sports Core, and, WHEREAS, the geographic location of the York Woods Subdivision in relation to the International Sports Core and the many activities conducted therein, poses a unique and imminent hazard to persons attempting to cross York Road at its intersection with Windsor Drive, and, WHEREAS, the geographic location of Butler School in relation to York Road poses a unique and imminent hazard because of the predictable flow of young pedestrians towards areas of community recreation, and, WHEREAS, the vertical alignment of York Road immediately north of the intersection of Windsor Drive and York Road provide inadequate site distances for traffic approaching the intersection of Windsor Drive from the north, and, WHEREAS, the anticipated expansion of recreational uses in the International Sports Core will create pedestrian warrants which will meet and exceed those specified in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Oak Brook that they do hereby urge the County Board of Supervisors and the DuPage County Highway Department to give favorable consideration and approval for the erection of a pedestrian- traffic actuated signal at the intersection of Windsor Drive and York Woods, and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the President and Board of Trustees DO HEREBY express their willingness to participate with DuPap County in the, engineering, funding, and construction of said traffic signal, and, BE IT STILL FURTHER RESOLVED that the Village Administrator be, and is hereby directed, to transmit this resolution to the County Board of Supervisors for their prompt consideration and response.
