RESOLUTION 2006 - TRANS -RTA- PACE -R -952
A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF PARTNERS FOR TRANSIT
AND THE MOVING BEYOND CONGESTION PROJECT
WHEREAS, road congestion is a severe and growing threat to Northeastern Illinois' economic
prosperity, and costs residents of the region more than $4 2 billion each year, and
WHEREAS, mass transit is part of the solution by reducing the cost of congestion and saving the
region $1 6 billion annually, and
WHEREAS, transit resources are insufficient to keep pace with ridership demands, which has
resulted in the diversion of capital funds to maintain current operating expenses by all three (3) service
boards and a lack of funds to replace aging vehicles and facilities and to improve and expand the system,
and
WHEREAS, the continued erosion of transit resources precludes the region from having a world -
class transportation system that would become the keystone of the region's growing business
opportunities, and
WHEREAS, the Regional Transit Authority (RTA), Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), Metra and
PACE have joined with dozens of municipalities as Partners for Transit and launched the Moving Beyond
Congestion project to build consensus on the need for an improved and expanded transit network, and
WHEREAS, the RTA as part of their financial oversight and regional planning responsibilities has
embarked on a strategic planning effort to define the means to preserve the existing transit system and
provide new transit investment for the future well being of the region
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF
THE VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK, DUPAGE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS as follows.
Section 1 That the Village of Oak Brook agrees to become a Partner for Transit joining with the
RTA, CTA, Metra and PACE in the Moving Beyond Congestion project to provide a better transit system
for all
Section 2 That the Village of Oak Brook will endeavor to promote the Moving Beyond Congestion
project to community organizations and residents to help shape the future of the region
Section 3: This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval
as provided by law
