RESOLUTION 95-BD-EFC-R-656 A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING AN AD HOC COI*IITTSS FOR THE PURPOSE OF PLANNING AND COORDINATING THE 1996 OAK BROOK INTERiNATIONAL ETHNIC PEST WHEREAS, one of Oak Brook's great strengths is the ethnic and cultural diversity of its citizens; and, WHEREAS, since 1993, the Butler Elementary School District 53 and its PTA organizations have recognized Oak Brook's diversity by sponsoring an annual *Ethnic Fest' each Spring, offering District 53 students and their families the opportunity to experience the food, art, music and dance of some of the many cultures represented in Oak Brook; and WHEREAS, the organizers of the District 53 Ethnic Fest believe that the event has grown to the limits of the District's facilities and that it has the potential to continue to grow into a significant community event for Oak Brook; and WHEREAS, officials of District 53 and its PTA organizations have suggested that the Village consider hosting and co-sponsoring, with other governmental units, an Oak Brook International Ethnic Fest; and WHEREAS, representatives of the Village of Oak Brook, the Oak Brook Park District, Butler Elementary School District 53 and its PTA organizations, the Oak Brook Civic Association, and others have met several times to ascertain the feasibility of holding such an event in September, 1996; and WHEREAS, the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Oak Brook (the 'Village Board' ) see potential for such an event to become an enriching and educational annual community event for the residents of Oak Brook; and WHEREAS, the Board embraces the vision for the Oak Brook International Ethnic Fest as expressed by the informal organizing committee, to wit: 'The community of Oak Brook is a microcosm of the World Community spirit is reflected in the business, educational, recreational, social and spiritual endeavors of its residents The Oak Brook International Ethnic Pest will promote the best of our roots, customs and traditions in a day of celebration of unity, respect and friendship.' NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK, DU PAGE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS as follows: Section 1: That there is hereby created an ad hoc committee for the purpose of planning and coordinating the 1996 Oak Brook International Ethnic Pest. Said committee shall be known as the 41996 Ethnic Pest Committee' and shall consist to thirteen members appointed by the village President, with the i Ordinance 95-BD-EFC-R-656 Establishing Ad Hoc Committee For 1996 Intl Ethnic Pest Page 2 consent of the Village Trustees. The Committee shall be composed of: (a) A Trustee of the Village of Oak Brook, who shall serve as Co- Chair. (b) A member of the Board of Education of Butler Elementary School District 53, who shall serve as Co-Chair. (c) A member of the Board of Commissioners of the Oak Brook Park District, who shall serve as Co-Chair. (d) A representative of the Oak Brook Civic Association. (e) A representative of the Butler School PTA. (f) A representative of the Brook Forest School PTA (g) A representative of the Oak Brook Women's Club (h) Six residents at large. Section 2: That the Committee shall have and exercise the following powers and duties: (a) To plan, coordinate, publicize, and execute the 1996 Oak Brook International Ethnic Pest (the 'Ethnic Fest" ). (b) To encourage the widest possible participation in the Ethnic Pest by residents, clubs, organizations, institutions and businesses within the Village. (c) To report regularly to all of the sponsoring governmental units on its progress and the status of its' efforts. (d) To prepare a comprehensive budget for the Ethnic Pest, which budget shall be subject to the approval of each sponsoring governmental unit. (e) To evaluate the success of the Ethnic Fest and to make recommendations concerning future events. (f) To form such subcommittees of its members as the Committee deems necessary and desirable for the efficient and timely conduct of its business, and to assign to such subcommittees any function or power provided herein.
