RECOMMENDED MOTION: I Move to approve Resolution 2007 -972 A Resolution in
Opposition to Legislation Relative to Freedom of Information Disclosures of Settlement
Agreements Entered Into by a Public Body
Background /History:
House Bill 511 requires FOIA disclosures of settlement agreements entered into by a Public
Body. The Village should oppose this bill because the release of litigation settlement amounts
severely compromises the ability of local governments to negotiate settlements of litigation
leading to the unnecessary expenditure of taxpayer dollars.
Recommendation:
That the Board approve the resolution in opposition to legislation relative to freedom of
information disclosures of settlement agreements entered into by a public body
