G-10-1, AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING A FIRE PREVENTION .CODE, PRESCRIBING REGULATIONS GOVERNING CONDITIONS HAZARDOUS TO LIFE AND PROPERTY FROM FIRE OR EXPLOSION, AND ESTABLISHING A BUREAU OF FIRE PRE- VENTION AND PROVIDING OFFICERS THEREFOR AND DEFINING THEIR POWERS AND DUTIES, PASSED AND APPROVED JANUARY 28,: 1969 , BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE .VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK Whereas, at least three (3) copies of that. certain code known as "The Fire Prevention Code" recommended by the American -Insurance Association, being particularly the 1970 edition thereof, have been and now are filed in the office of the Clerk of the Village of Oak Brook and have been kept available there for public..use, inspection and examination for a thirty (30) day period, pursuant to the pro-. .. visions of Division 3 of Article 1 of the Illinois Municipal Code of 1961; and Whereas, the corporate authorities of the Village of Oak Brook deem it to be in the interest of public health and safety to adopt by reference the regulations of "The Fire Prevention Code" of the American Insurance' Association, 1970 Edition, with certain modifi- cations. BE IT ORDAINED by the President and Board of Trustees of the. Village of Oak Brook, DuPage County, Illinois: Section 1. That Section 1 of Ordinance No. G-102, entitled "An Ordinance Adopting A Fire Prevention Code Prescribing Regula- tions Governing Conditions Hazardous To Life and Property From Fire or Explosion, . and Establishing A Bureau of Fire Prevention and Providing Officers Therefor, and Defining Their. Powers and Duties" , passed and approved January 28 , 1969, be and it is hereby amended and as amended shall read as follows: ."Section 1. Adoption of Fire Prevention Code. "There is hereby adopted by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Oak Brook, DuPage County, Illinois , ~' for the purpose of prescribing regulations governing conditions hazardous to life and property from fire or explosion, that certain code known as the Fire Prevention Code recommended by the American Insurance Association, being particularly the 1970 edition thereof and the whole thereof, save and except such portions as are hereinafter deleted, modified or amended (by Section T of this ordinance) , of which code not less than three (3) copies have been and now are filed in the office of the Clerk of the Village of Oak Brook and the same are hereby adopted and incorporated as fully as if set out at length herein, and from the date on which this ordinance shall take effect, the provisions thereof shall be -controlling within the limits of the Village of Oak Brook. " Section 2. That Section 7 of the . aforesaid Ordinance No. G-101 is amended and as amended shall read as follows: "Section 7. 'Amendments Made In the Fire Prevention Code. A "The Fire Prevention'Code is amended and changed in the following respects: ° -2- " (a) The following Articles and ,Sections are deleted to-wit: "Articles 2 and 3,. Section 16.65 and Article 17. " (b) The following Sections are "amended and as amended shall read as follows: "Section '11. 3. ' Lighting of Exit Ways. " (a) Adequate emergency lighting shall be installed in all assembly, educational, industrial, institutional, mercantile, office, storage, resi- dential and multi-family occupancies . All emergency lighting shall have an alternate source of power such as automatic generators, battery powered systems or two separate power feeds from different generating stations. The emergency lighting system shall be installed so as to sufficiently illuminate all means of egress such as corridors, stairwells, exit doors and any other means of travel that leads to an exit, :- except as provided for in Section 11.3- (b) , 11.3- (c) , and 11.3- (d) . " (b) If it is a mercantile occupancy with less than 7,000 square feet, one floor and at ground level with adequate outside light provided by windows or other means, then emergency lights shall not be required. " (c) If it is an industrial or storage occupancy with less than 7 ,000 square feet, one floor, and at ground level with adequate outside illumination pro- vided by windows or other means, then emergency lights shall not be required. 11 (d) it is a multi-family occupancy of less than one story-with no occupancy below grade and corridors not to exceed 150 feet in length then emergency lights shall not be required. " "Section 14. 4. Automatic Sprinkler Systems. « (a) General "Automatic sprinkler systems shall be installed in all assembly, educational, industrial, insti- tutional, mercantile, storage, office and resi- dential occupancies except as provided for in Section 14. 4- (b) and Section 14.4- (c) . • " (b)' Mercantile Occupancy "A mercantile occupancy of one story, at ground - level, and having a total area of less than 7 ,000 square feet does not require an automatic sprinkler " system. ".(c) Office Occupancies "An office occupancy shall not require a complete automatic sprinkler system provided adequate ". ,. automatic fire detection and manual alarm systems a are installed. However, all basement areas, verticle chutes, below grade areas, and parking - garages of office occupancies, shall require automatic sprinkler systems. l -3- " (d) 'Installation "Automatic sprinkler systems shall be installed so as to. provide 'reasonable safety to persons and property. Evidence that auto- matic sprinkler systems have been installed in in accordance with the applicable standard specified for this Section 14.4- (e) in Article 31 of this code shall be evidence that such automatic sprinkler systems provide reason- able safety to person and property. " "Section 27 .1. Definitions. " (a) Decorative material shall include all such material as curtains „ draperies, streamers , surface coverings applied over the building interior finish for decoration, acoustical or other effect, and also cloth, cotton, batting, straw, vines , leaves, trees and plastics used for decorative effect, this shall also include all floor coverings and all materials one fortieth (1/40) of an inch or less in thickness applied directly to and adhering tightly to a noncombustible base. " (b} Place of assembly shall mean a room or space used for assembly or educational occupancy for 100 or more occupants or which has a floor area of 1,500 square feet or more used for such purposes. Such room or space shall include any similar occupied connecting room or space in the same story, or in a story or stories above or below where entrance is common to the rooms or spaces. " "Settiori 27. 4. Pyroxylin Coated Fabric. "Pyroxylin coated materials shall not be used as a surface covering on any interior finish or fixed furnishings." Secticn '3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and ter its passage_12d`..approval and publication as required by law. PASSED and APPROVED' by=
