AN ORDINANCE CREATING THE POSITION OF

IN THE VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK FIRE DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, the Villager Manager and Fire Chief have recommended that the Village establish
the position of Deputy Fire Chief who would be appointed by the Fire Chief, and
WHEREAS, the President and Board of Trustees find that it is in the best interest of the Village to
create the position of Deputy Fire Chief of the Oak Brook Fire Department
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF
THE VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK, DU PAGE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS as follows
Section 1 That the provisions of the preamble hereinabove set forth are hereby adopted as
though fully set forth herein
Section 2. That Section 3 -2 -3 of Title 3 (Public Safety) shall be deleted in its entirety and
replaced with the following
"3 -2 -3 APPOINTMENT AND PROMOTION OF FIREFIGHTERS; DEPUTY FIRE CHIEF
A Appointment and Promotion The power of appointment to all entry level firefighter
positions and the power of promotion for the ranks of lieutenant and battalion chief
shall be in the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners of the Village
B Deputy Fire Chief
1 There is hereby created in and for the Village the office of Deputy Fire Chief
2 The Deputy Fire Chief shall be appointed by the Fire Chief

3 The Deputy Fire Chief may be appointed from any rank of sworn, full -time
firefighters of the Village's Fire Department and must have at least five (5) years
of full -time service as a firefighter in the Oak Brook Fire Department
4 The Deputy Fire Chief position shall be an exempt rank subordinate exclusively
to the Fire Chief Said Deputy Fire Chief shall serve at the discretion of the Fire
Chief, and, if removed from the position, shall revert to the rank held immediately
prior to the appointment to the Deputy Fire Chief position "
Section 3 All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are hereby
repealed to the extent of the conflict
Section 4 This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage, approval
and publication as required by law
