Village President and Board of Trustees W E B S I T E w%vw oak -brook or-, FROM: Michael J. Meranda, Public Works Director SUBJECT: Lawn Sprinkling Restrictions RECOMMENDATION: That the Village President and Board of Trustees adopt the accompanying draft ordinance which increases the number of days per week for outside watering from two (2) to three (3) and reduces the number of hours allowed for watering per day from twelve (12) to eight (8) In furtherance of information provided in past Manager's Memorandums regarding lawn sprinkling, attached please find a draft ordinance prepared by Attorney Martens, which modifies Section 12 -202, Landscape Watering, of the Code of Ordinances. In essence, the proposed ordinance increases the number of days allowed per week for watering from two (2) to three (3), and reduces the hours allowed for watering per day from twelve (12) to eight (8). While the total number of hours per week remains at twenty -four (24), the increase in the number of days provides for more customer flexibility in satisfying outside water usage needs. Until the new ordinance is actually implemented, it is virtually impossible to determine what impact the change will have on water operations and specifically ground storage reservoir levels. However, if customers strictly adhere to the new days and times, little, (if any) impact should result. Conversely, if customers mix and match the new days with the old times twelve hours per day — three days per week), there is little question that a negative impact on operations, and specifically ground storage reservoir levels, will occur. Because of this, it is with some hesitancy that this recommendation is being forwarded for your consideration. However, if it is your wish to implement the change, direct mail notices announcing the change will be prepared and mailed to all water customers within the next few weeks Obviously, we will monitor the situation closely and will keep you well - informed relative to the success or failure of the new watering days and times. Respectfully submitted, LL I jkcf I Michael J. randa Director of Public Works fD) the plans which were submitted into evidence at the hearing of March 7, 2000.
