SUBJECT: Addition of "Required STOP" Sign

BUDGET SOURCE/BUDGET IMPACT: None
RECOMMENDED MOTION: Move to add a STOP sign to Title 7 -2 -1 Schedule IV, requiring
that eastbound traffic on the unnamed westerly approach to Avenue Loire be required to stop.
Background/History: Due to a number of complaints from residents along Avenue Loire
regarding traffic infractions, both Engineering and Police Departments conducted a study of
traffic patterns along Avenue Loire. Many vehicles were observed to display poor lane control,
particularly at the intersection of Avenue Loire and the unnamed street which approaches from
the west. In order to alleviate this situation two traffic control measures are planned. Double
yellow lane stripes will be installed. A STOP sign requiring that eastbound traffic stop at
Avenue Loire is also proposed. Installation of this sign will require that the Board approve
modification of Title 7 of the code. The traffic conditions will be monitored to insure that these
control measures are effective.
Recommendation: That the Board approve the attached ordinance requiring that eastbound
traffic approaching Avenue Loire be required to stop.

ORDINANCE 2013- TC -RR -G -1001
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 2 (TRAFFIC SCHEDULES)
OF TITLE 7 (MOTOR VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC) OF THE VILLAGE CODE
OF THE VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK IN RELATION TO AVENUE LOIRE
WHEREAS, Title 7 (Motor Vehicles and Traffic), Section 7 -2 -1 (Traffic Schedules), Schedule IV
(Stop Streets) of the Village Code of the Village of Oak Brook provides for stop signs on certain streets;
and
WHEREAS, the President and Board of Trustees of the Village deem it advisable and in the best
interest and in furtherance of the general welfare of the citizens of the Village that Schedule IV of Section
7 -2 -1 of the Village Code be amended.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF
THE VILLAGE OF OAK BROOK, DU PAGE AND COOK COUNTIES, ILLINOIS, as follows:
Section 1: Recitals. The foregoing recitals are hereby incorporated into, and made a part
of, this Ordinance as the findings of the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Oak Brook.
Section 2: Amendment to Section 7 -2 -1, Schedule IV. Schedule IV of Section 7 -2 -1 of the
Village Code shall be amended with the addition of the following:
Avenue Loire Eastbound Traffic on Westerly Approach
Section 4: Severability. If any provision of this Ordinance or part thereof is held invalid by a
court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions of this Ordinance shall remain in full force and
effect, and shall be interpreted, applied, and enforced so as to achieve, as near as may be, the purpose
and intent of this Ordinance to the greatest extent permitted by applicable law.
Section 5: Effective Date. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its
passage, approval, and publication in the manner provided by law.
