G-874 - 11/11/2008 - LICENSE - Ordinances Supporting DocumentsI' EAM 9, It, I) . i 'K f tf A.; 2i, 1, AGENDA ITEM Regular Board of Trustees Meeting of November 11, 2008 SUBJECT: Permitted Hours for Sale and Consumption of Alcohol FROM: David J. Niemeyer, Village Manager BUDGET SOURCE/BUDGET IMPACT: N/A RECOMMENDED MOTION: An Ordinance Amending Title 4 (Buisness and License Regulations), Chapter 1 (Liquor Control), Section 15 (Conditions of License) of the Village Code of the Village of Oak Brook Relative to Permitted Hours For Sale and Consumption Background/History: As you may remember, the Village Board discussed allowing liquor establishments in Oak Brook to serve alcohol on Friday nights from 1 am to 2am, similar to Saturday hours. This request was made from Al- di -La. Trustee Sanford talked with the Chamber and reported that the Chamber did not believe that there was any significant demand for this additional hour on Fridays from local establishment. Recently, we received a similar request from Grottos(see attached letter) The Village President, who is also the Liquor Commissioner, is requesting that the board consider changing the code to allow all liquor license holders to be open until 2am on Friday evenings. The Police Chief does not anticipate any problems with this change. President Craig is also requesting that the Village Board consider charging an additional $500 annual fee for the privilege of getting this new license. The management of Grotto is aware of this proposed fee and willing to pay the fee if granted the additional hour on Fridays. Recommendation: That the Village Board pass the recommended Ordinance G -874 amending Title 4, Chapter 1, Section 15 of the Village Code relative to permitted hours for sale and consumption of alcohol. Craig Village President 1200 OAK Brook Road Oak Brook, IL 60523 RE: Grotto Dear Mr. Craig 041Dgg I am writing you in regards to our liquor license here at our restaurant at 3011 Butterfield Road in the Promenade Shopping Center. Since you are the liquor commissioner, I felt that you where the right person to have us request the following amendment. We would like to request an extention to our current license that allows us to serve alcohol beverages a extra hour on Friday's. The main reason for our request is due to our banquet facility. With the upcoming holiday season we will have groups celebrating events here with us. There can be times that the groups can run longer than 12:30 am and we would like to be able to extend the extra hour if it becomes necessary. I would like to have you enter this request for us and bring this up for a vote at your next village meeting. Please let me know when the date and time of the next village meeting my request will be heard so I can present. Please feel free to contact me personally if you have any questions regarding my request above. I am seeking Board approval to change the closing time of my establishment, Al di La, to 2:00 a.m. on Fridays. I believe this will help me to compete with establishments in the surrounding area and will provide Oak Brook with increased revenue dollars. Customers are leaving my restaurant to go down the street to other communities surrounding Oak Brook. I ask that you take this into consideration so that I can compete on the same playing field as the rest of the restaurants in the area.
