SUBJECT: Public Safety Vehicle Computer Equipment Purchase

RECOMMENDED MOTION: I move that the Village Board waive further bidding since the
State of Illinois has already conducted the bid process and issue a purchase order to CDS Office
Technologies, Itasca, Illinois for 11 Panasonic Toughbook CF-33 Fully Rugged Tablets in the
amount of$52,045 and approve Resolution R-1682.
Background/History:
The Fire Department has been using General Dynamics GD-8000 computers for the past 5 years
for Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and emergency response data retrieval. The current
equipment has reached end of life in August 2017 and is no longer supported by the
manufacturer.
Information Technology Division staff has completed a review of the Fire Departments request
to replace and upgrade the equipment. After a comprehensive review of the ruggedized
computers available on the market, Fire and Information Technology staff has concluded the best
solution and most cost effective option is to purchase 11 Panasonic Toughbook CF-33 Fully
Rugged Tablets and associated docking equipment with a 5-year product warranty.
Both the Police and Fire Departments have used Panasonic computer equipment in their vehicles
in the past and have been very satisfied with the reliability, performance, and service of the
equipment. With the migration of dispatching services to Du-Comm; the Village's Public Safety
Departments has become increasing dependent on Computer Aided Dispatching(CAD)through
the vehicle laptops.
