RESOLUTION OF MEMORIAM
WHEREAS, STAN MIKITA, a former long-time resident of York Woods, in Oak Brook, passed away
on August 7, 2018; and
WHEREAS, the children of STAN MIKITA attended Butler School in Oak Brook, and
WHEREAS, since the age of 18 STAN MIKITA spent his entire career with the Chicago Blackhawks
Hockey Team from 1958 through 1980, and
WHEREAS, was instrumental in leading the Chicago Blackhawks to the Stanley Cup in 1961, and
WHEREAS, STAN MIKITA was the recipient of the Hart Trophy, the Art Ross Trophy, the Lady Byng
Memorial Trophy, and the Lester Patrick Trophy on numerous occasions, and participated in nine NHL All Star
Games, and
WHEREAS, he was instrumental in forming the American Hearing Impaired Hockey Association,
and he founded the STAN MIKITA School for the Hearing Impaired, and also helped bring the Special
Olympics to Chicago, and
WHEREAS, after his retirement, he became a golf professional at Kemper Lakes Golf Club and his
other business interests under STAN MIKITA Enterprise, included ownership of STAN MIKITA's Village Inn
in the 1960's and 70's located at the Oakbrook Center Mall, and
WHEREAS, STAN MIKITA had a cameo appearance in the movie Wayne's World that also included
a fictional STAN MIKITA'S Donuts hangout, and
WHEREAS, STAN MIKITA returned to Oak Brook on August 25, 2013 for the Chicago Sports Day
Polo Match, where he threw out the first ball, and
WHEREAS,for 3 decades, the Blackhawks Alumni Association has hosted an annual golf tournament
named in STAN MIKITA'S honor, hosting the tournament in the Village of Oak Brook in 2017, and
WHEREAS, the Village of Oak Brook flag was flown at half-mast today to honor STAN MIKITA
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Oak
Brook that STAN MIKITA be and is hereby remembered for his shared talents and energy, and will be missed.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Oak Brook,
for and on behalf of said Village and its citizens, do hereby extend their sympathy and gratitude to the family
of STAN MIKITA.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a duly certified copy of this Resolution be delivered to the family of
STAN MIKITA and that this Resolution be spread upon the official permanent records of said Village.
ADOPTED AND APPROVED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Oak Brook,
DuPage and Cook Counties, Illinois, this 14th day of August, 2018.
