20-04 COVID-19 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Oak Brook Police Department 1200 Oak Brook Road Oak Brook, IL 60523 (630) 368-8702 Contact: Officer Katie Yager Public Information Officer (630) 368-8734 cyager@oak-brook.org Police response to calls for service during COVID-19 pandemic The Oak Brook Police Department is committed to serving the community during the evolving COVID- 19 situation and we wanted to share measures we're taking to limit the spread of the virus and keep our staff healthy and available to serve the community. If you have a fever and either a cough or shortness of breath, we ask you to conduct police business over the phone if possible and not enter the station, so we can help prevent the spread of illness. We have temporarily suspended public station tours, presentations, citizen’s police academy, child safety seat inspections and installs, police ride-alongs, as well as public fingerprinting services. We have canceled the scheduled Adjudication Hearing on April 8th. When responding to calls for service, in which the nature of the call for service does not require a police response – the assigned officer may contact the complainant by phone to complete the report. In those instances, in which an officer responds to the incident location, the officer may ask the complainant to step outside and maintain the CDC recommended 6+ foot distance. On calls where our officers respond to potential COVID-19 exposures, you may notice our officers wearing personal protective equipment (including face masks & gloves) and may ask you to step outside, keeping a safe distance from you. Please don’t be offended by these precautions, as we are only doing this to protect you and to protect our officers. If you need a police officer to respond for any type of call, please call 911. A dispatcher may ask questions to see if you have any symptoms of COVID-19. Please be honest about your symptoms. We are committed to continuing to serve the community, while protecting our first responders from infection so we can serve others, including medically vulnerable members of our community.
