Death Investigation of 5 Year Old Child
OAK BROOK, IL – September, 4 2020– At approximately 10:00 PM Oak Brook Police
and Fire Departments responded to the Drake Hotel, 2301 York Rd. Oak Brook for a call
of a child that sustained a traumatic head injury. Family members attending a wedding
reception immediately called 911 when the child was discovered unresponsive. The child,
a five year old male from Glenview, was attending a family wedding reception being held
at the Drake Hotel. Immediately upon arrival, police department personnel assisted an
emergency medicine physician in attendance for the reception performing CPR on the
unresponsive victim. Oak Brook Fire Department paramedics arrived and transported the
child to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead by the attending
physician.
Upon preliminary investigation while reviewing video from the establishment, the child,
was laying perpendicular across a sofa table directly behind a sofa in an open area where
other children in the party were sitting. As the children were getting up leaving the area,
the victim began to slide off the sofa table, constructed with a granite top, and held the
edge with his fingers to slow his dissent as he slid backwards. As he dismounted the
table, the table fell on top of the child’s head causing significant injury.
