On Monday, February 22, 2010, at 6:47 p.m., the Oak Brook Fire Department
responded to the Marriott Residence Inn, in the 700 block of Jorie Boulevard, for the
small fire in one of its guest rooms. Upon arrival, fire crews discovered smoke
conditions on the fourth floor and a fire sprinkler activation in one of the guest rooms.
The building was evacuated and an additional request for assistance from area
departments was initiated. There were no injuries to either the occupants of the hotel
or the responding fire crews. The fire was extinguished by the fire sprinkler in the
room, minimizing the extent of fire damage. However, there was water damage to
the rooms on the floors directly below where the fire was located. The on -scene fire
companies assisted the hotel employees with cleaning up the water from the sprinkler
system, and all hotel guests were allowed to reoccupy the building. The incident was
terminated at approximately 830 p.m.
Area Fire Departments that assisted the Oak Brook Fire Department during this
incident were the Westmont Fire Department, the Oak Brook Terrace Fire Protection
District, the Elmhurst Fire Department and the York Center Fire Protection District.
