Oak Brook, Illinois (June 19, 2009 3: 30 PIVD Eating at the Bath & Tennis Poolside Grill is different this year. It has a new menu, it's under new management and it's profitable. "Yeah, it's great, I love it, " said young Victor Ciardelli while he was enjoying his Chicken Wings. Victor and his cousin, Jack Armond, both from Hinsdale enjoy eating at the Poolside Grill and like the wider selection of menu items. Last year the Poolside Grill operated at a $10,000 deficit. This year it will operate at a profit. The current Village Board is looking at every department for cost savings and reductions. The operation of the Poolside Grill was contracted out to Frank DiLeo of DiLeo's Pizza in Elmhurst by a unanimous vote of the Village Trustees at the regularly scheduled meeting of May 12, 2009. The contract provides for the Village to receive twenty percent (20%) of all revenues. Frank DiLeo commented, "I've had an overwhelmingly positive response from the members. Everyone loves the portions. I am excited to be here and to be a part of the club". Christy Murphy, a resident of Oak Brook noted, "The selection of food and beverage items is a definite improvement". The Bath & Tennis facility is a part of the Oak Brook Sports Core, a 258 acre complex encompassing an 18 hole golf course, an outdoor swimming facility complete with children's pool, lap pool, and a diving pool, as well as a poolside grill. The Sports Core also includes outdoor clay tennis courts and the clubhouse which accommodates up to 200 for seated catered events. Although the Golf facilities operate at a profit, the rest of the Sports Core operates at a deficit. The current Village Board of Oak Brook is looking at a variety of ways to reduce the deficit spending by considering various options including the possibility of contracting with a catering company to provide food and beverage operations at the Clubhouse. "Outsourcing the Poolside Grill is just the beginning. Our ultimate goal is to increase the usage at the Bath and Tennis, improve the Sports Core experience and decrease the subsidy it receives from the Village's General • Page 2 Fund. We are asking our residents for ideas on how to improve our programs in an effort to attract them back to the Bath & Tennis. The food service at the Poolside Grill was an issue so we are trying to make it better by hiring a professional restaurateur. We are also in the process of conducting focus group discussions about children's tennis programs. A large number of Oak Brook children take tennis lessons at other facilities and we would like them to try our courts and our programs".
