Brook, Illinois (lune 19, 2009 3: 30 PM) The residents of Oak Brook now can dispose of expired or unused medications by dropping them off in a permanent drop box inside Village Hall (outside the Oak Brook Police Department office), 1200 Oak Brook Rd. Look for the large white metal drop box labeled RxBOX. Oak Brook residents may not be aware that improperly disposing of prescription or over-the-counter drugs, such as dumping them down a drain or flushing them down a toilet, may contribute to environmental concerns about our water supplies or waterways. Despite overall concerns about flushing or dumping medications, we can assure you that Oak Brook's water supply is safe and meets or exceeds all safety standards as established by state and federal Environmental Protection Agencies. This new prescription disposal program is intended to reduce any pharmaceutical threat to water supplies or waterways. The RxBOX program also helps to reduce safety concerns that may occur with accidental ingestion of medication by children in a household and is one way to help address the growing issue of prescription drug abuse. The permanent RxBOX drop box at the Oak Brook Police Department is available to the public 24 Hours a day. There is no charge to drop off your medications. The medications will be periodically removed from the drop box and transported to the Illinois EPA for safe incineration. This program, which Oak Brook has voluntarily joined, is funded by the TEPA. Oak Brook is part of a collection throughout DuPage County sponsored by DuPage County Government and the DuPage County Health Department.
