The Village was honored at the Chaddick Awards Ceremony on Thursday, June 7, at the Chaddick Institute of DePaul University in Chicago. President Gopal Lalmalani and former trustee and current Commercial Revitalization and Streetscape Committee Chair Jeff Kennedy received the award on behalf of the Village. Also in attendance were Village Manager David Niemeyer and Community Development Director Robert Kallien. The Chaddick Institute will present the formal award at the Village Board of Trustees meeting on July 10 at 7 p.m. “The selection committee was especially impressed with how Oak Brook reached out to residents via the homeowner associations and included the Plan Commission in the process,” said Joseph P. Schwieterman, Director of the Chaddick Institute. “The committee also noted how these actions resulted in agreement between the residents and the business community over pro-business improvements, including their impressive sign code modernization.” In the past, the Chaddick Municipal Development Award has recognized communities for innovative approaches in areas such as zoning, development approvals, subdivision regulation, design review, and sign control. The Chaddick Institute is an organization that seeks to advance the principles of effective land use, transportation, and community planning. “This is a significant achievement for the Village,” said Village President Gopal Lalmalani. “The award signifies the important role our Plan has had in the redevelopment of our 22nd Street commercial corridor, and the commitment we have made to involve residents and businesses in developing and implementing the Plan.” ### Village of Oak Brook Media Contact: David Niemeyer / (630) 368-5026 PRESS RELEASE About the Village of Oak Brook: Founded in 1958, the Village of Oak Brook is located 15 miles west of downtown Chicago and is in proximity to the junction of Interstates 88, 294, and 290.
